Studying On Being a Landlord - Humble Beginnings
In order to increase my net worth I am investigating rental property. I know nothing of being a landlord and so have begun my research on the internet and at my local library. I am not 100% sure that I have the temperament to be a landlord but I am interested in investigating the possibility. I also know some people who own rental property and will pick their brains as soon as I learn enough to know what to ask.
So far I have found three web sites that look to have quite a bit of information. Here are the sites I have investigated so far:
- FatWallet Investment Forum - especially the 1600 messages in the “Investment / Rental Property” thread.
- MrLandlord.com - “where rental owners ask landlording questions and get answers and tips from other landlords”.
- Creative Real Estate Online - “Financial Independence through Education”
The books that I have checked out of the library include the following:
- The New No-Nonsense Landlord by Richard H Jorgensen
- Landlording: A Handymanual for Scrupulous Landlords and Landladies Who Do It Themselves by Leigh Robinson
- The Landlords Handbook by Daniel Goodwin, Richard Rusdorf, & Barbara McNichol
- Simply Essential Landlords Kit with CD by Timothy Madden
- How to Find and Manage Profitable Properties by Robert Irwin
- Property Management for Dummies by Robert Griswold
- How to manage apartments for maximum cash flow and resale value
As I go through the books and websites I will post my impressions.
